WHAT IS FIBROMYALGIA?
The fibromyalgia is a disease characterised by chronic generalised muscle pain of unknown origin, with exaggerated hypersensitivity, accompanied by other symptoms such as fatigue, memory problems and mood swings. It occurs more frequently in women than in men and the average age at which symptoms begin to manifest themselves is between 30 and 50 years of age. It is a condition unknown to a large part of society and many doctors, which makes sufferers feel that they are not believed, as if they had a mental illness.

Fortunately, fibromyalgia is not life-threatening and does not cause muscle or joint damage, and is thought to be due to a dysfunction of the central nervous system, causing an “amplification” of normal pain signals. It creates a hypersensitivity to pain, so that stimuli that would not cause pain in most people cause pain in those with fibromyalgia.

X-rays and blood tests of people with fibromyalgia are normal, so the diagnosis is based on a thorough physical examination and the patient's medical history.

SYMPTOMS

The main symptom is widespread musculoskeletal pain, these pains are spread throughout the body, other symptoms include tiredness that does not improve with rest, fatigue, reduced resistance to strenuous activity and the kind of tiredness you feel when you have the flu or when you can't sleep, many patients find it difficult to fall asleep, while others are very light sleepers and wake up frequently during the night, the disruption of “deep sleep” alters certain crucial body functions, such as the production of hormones needed to restore muscle tissue, and the levels of substances that control the way a person perceives pain. Improving sleep disruption is therefore essential for reducing fibromyalgia symptoms.

Other common symptoms are mood swings, which are very common in fibromyalgia, people who suffer from fibromyalgia usually feel sad, depressed or have depression and anxiety, anyone with a chronic illness can feel depressed, struggling with pain and tiredness, often accompanied by a lack of concentration, especially in times of extreme anxiety or exhaustion, this problem comes and goes, headaches, pain in the shoulders, lower back or pelvis, tingling or numbness in the arms and legs, a feeling of swelling, menstrual irregularities, difficulty concentrating, fatigue and fatigue can also appear, and the symptoms of fibromyalgia are often accompanied by a lack of concentration and fatigue. Raynaud's, Restless leg syndrome, morning stiffness, pain in the jaw and facial muscles (temporomandibular joint disorder or myofascial (skeletal muscle) pain in one part of the body, irritable bowel syndrome...

The factors that can provoke or aggravate this pathology are fatigue, stress, cold, exhaustion, strong emotions, traumatisms, vertebral subluxations, psychological background, affective problems...

MEDICINAL SOLUTIONS

The solutions provided by conventional medicine are limited to masking the symptoms through medication, tranquilisers can be addictive and beta-blockers can lead to a multitude of side effects, without fixing the cause of the disease.

WHY VISIT A CHIROPRACTOR IF YOU HAVE FIBROMYALGIA?

The actual cause of the disease is a combination of factors involving dysfunction of the nervous system, a defect in interpretation leading to abnormal perception of pain in the absence of injury, anxiety, sleep disturbance etc.

Chiropractic is therefore a technique that does not use drugs or surgery and provides a natural solution to the problem.

There is no doubt that fibromyalgia is a dysregulation of the control of the central nervous system and chiropractic is a health discipline that consists of ensuring proper activity of the nervous system, which is essential for the health and general functioning of the human body. Chiropractic adjustments strengthen the body's resistance. By eliminating nerve interference along the spinal column, the doctor of chiropractic restores the balance between the accelerator and the brake of the central nervous system, giving the body a greater ability to adapt to its environment.

When you suffer from pain, not only is it very difficult to find a solution, but also your body becomes fatigued, decreasing its adaptation to the environment and affecting your overall health.
In our centre, you will find the best help that can be offered to your back, and with the treatment your dynamism, vitality, strength and wellbeing will return.
Through spinal adjustments, the doctor of chiropractic will promote normal nerve function at its most optimal level, which maximises the body's innate healing ability. In addition, it improves the biomechanics of the spine, range of motion and posture, thereby in most cases reducing the pain and discomfort caused by fibromyalgia.

If you have fibromyalgia or know someone who does, please do not hesitate to contact us.
