FAIS is a pathology of the hip, a malformation of either the femoral head or the acetabulum, which is the bony cavity in which the femoral head fits. This will cause poor friction through movement, rather than gliding smoothly.
There are two types of femoroacetabular impingement:
CAM
It corresponds to a modification of the femoral neck bone, usually related to men between 20-30 years old who played sports with microtrauma.
PINCER
It corresponds to a modification of the acetabulum bone (the part that receives the head of the femur) and is usually associated with women around 40 years of age.
And it can present both types at the same time.
This problem usually appears around the age of 30, especially in people who played sport at an early age, generating microtraumatisms (skating, running). Due to these repeated microtraumatisms, the bone changes shape and produces conflict in the joint itself.
This will cause a very strong pain in the groin, when stepping, and generate movement.
SYMPTOMS OF FEMORO ACETABULAR SYNDROME
-Intermittent pain that comes on progressively
-Acute/streak to activity at groin level
-episodes of crunching
-episodes of joint locks
-less mobility
How will chiropractic help us?
Chiropractic care allows you to have more mobility and less hip pain, thanks to techniques specific to this joint.
We will also reduce the frequency of the crises and the intensity of the crisis and the time, the anatomical problem remains (the deformation of the bone), the pain may appear later, in a few months or years, but the patient already knows the symptoms and in the first discomfort will be able to adjust in anticipation of the real crisis.
